A sustainable water-based technology transforming lignin waste into bio-based chemicals, offering an eco-friendly alternative to petrochemicals while lowering CO2 emissions.
700 Mt CO₂
are emitted annually by the petrochemical industry for aromatics
Lignin, a byproduct of the pulp and paper industry, contains the same chemical value as crude oil but is mostly burned or landfilled, releasing gigatons of CO₂ annually. The lack of sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based aromatic chemicals increases reliance on fossil resources, contributing to climate change.
Nova Biochem’s biotech process converts lignin into bio-based aromatic chemicals using a water-based, solvent-free method. This approach minimizes energy consumption and waste, providing sustainable, high-value chemical building blocks for adhesives, plastics, and other applications.
1Gt CO₂
emissions saved using 100Mt of lignin waste annually
This clean water-based solution prevents lignin burning - a CO2-producing procedure - and employs biotech processing to offer clients bio-chemicals and aromatic products derived from lignin refining that would otherwise only be found in petroleum-derived hydrocarbons.
Valorizing lignin through biorefining empowers manufacturers and chemical companies to utilize clean, water-based, and sustainable alternatives to aromatics derived from non-renewable petrochemicals, and reducing pulping waste that would otherwise be incinerated facilitates them to meet their ESG goals.
